Meeting of the 4th October 2018. The Trade Weights Competition
This month, instead of our usual find of the month competition we asked members to bring along their favourite trade weight that they had found at any time.
A most interesting selection were brought along with two very similar three lions triangular lead weights found by different people in different areas. Several coin weights a brass William IV 2 ounce weight covered in assay marks assuring its accuracy and weighing in at 1.8 ounces!
The bottle of wine prize was won by Maureen Scothon with an early medieval weight with an embedded object.
The meeting was also attended by FLO Alastair Willis who collected and returned various items of interest with members, including the winning weight: DENO-
Some of the committee reported that they had had a stand at the Brailsford Ploughing Match where they had made contacts who may be able to provide locations for upcoming club digs so thanks very much to the committee for that.
